The sweet taste of Lollipop – Google Nexus 9

Wondering what our title is all about? Yes, Google’s latest entrant, Nexus 9, features Android 5.0 Lollipop. The latest operating system’s name sounds sweet and appealing; let’s see if it does justice to this new gizmo.


When it comes to design, Google and HTC chose the subtle route. It uses a plastic back cover with a metal frame that runs around its body. Its matte black plastic comes etched with a huge Nexus logo right in the centre. Moreover, the top-left corner houses 2 core elements – 8-megapixel camera and LED flash. This HTC-built tablet flaunts a clean, simplistic look with sturdy assembly. Its 8.9-inch IPS touchscreen with 4:3 aspect ratio ensures sharp wide viewing angles. It provides a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels with a pixel density of 281 ppi, which ensures sharp images and text.

Android Lollipop 5.0

The Nexus 9 is the first-ever tablet to run on the latest Lollipop 5.0. This new operating system is a treat to the eyes, all thanks to its contemporary and aesthetic finish. Your surfing experience will be enhanced with its innovative features like a modified quick settings menu, interactive lock screen notifications and revamped recent apps function. The keyboard case let you work on the tablet like a pro even while travelling.


The Google Nexus 9 makes a great technical statement with its 64-bit version of the NvidiaTegra K1 system on a chip with a 2.3 GHz dual-core Denver CPU and 192 coreKepler DX1 GPU .The tablet does not include microSD card expansion slot but don’t despair since it comes with the Google cloud-based services, which offers additional storage options. The Nexus 9 is available in two storage options – 16 GB and 32 GB. However, another 32 GB, 4G LTE model will be available soon. This tablet works on the Kepler architecture that is commonly used in some dedicated GeForce graphics cards.

The Nexus 9 offers a host of connectivity options such as the optional quad-band GSM, CDMA, Penta-band HSPA and 4G LTE. Other options include Bluetooth 4.1 with aptX, Wi-Fi, NFC, A-GPS, GLONASS and microUSB 2.0.

Battery and Sound

Armed with a 6,700 mAh battery, the tablet allows you to multitask for around 8 – 10 hours on full charge. Integrated with HTC BoomSound speakers on the front, this beauty provides loud and clear audio quality with a decent amount of bass.
